Radio Brain Wave
Introducing the new time and money saving Evesham e-dock, multi dock digital radio programmer.
Evesham,24th May 2007
Rolling out a new digital radio network, maintaining a network with new software updates and implementing customisations are major operational issues for Police Forces and Emergency Services everywhere. These processes are manual, laborious and costly but Evesham Technology has the solution. In response to customer requests and in conjunction with a Police Force client, Evesham has designed the new multi dock digital radio programmer. The new e-dock, designed to manage efficiently a significant number of radios, drastically reduces valuable man power and saves already stretched budgets by automating the process of radio software upgrades to reduce the time spent updating remote units and enhance the management and control of radio inventories.
Annually, all digital radios require multiple software updates and patches to keep up with mandatory requirements this process is lengthy taking up to 10 minutes per radio. Multiply this out across a fleet and it is soon easy to see why the manual process is expensive and slow. In extreme cases the manual process of upgrading a fleet of radios can become logistically impossible, potentially leaving organisations legally exposed and operationally inefficient. Tackling 8 radio units simultaneously via 8 docking stations (designed for either Sepura or Motorola radio handsets), the new e-dock takes 2 to 10 minutes to complete a batch of 8 radio units, significantly reducing the time and man power currently required.
Now, combine the gruelling task of implementing a major roll-out of updates to a fleet of radios with the additional task of maintaining overall control of multiple devices in diverse locations. Evesham's new e-dock features an integrated, energy efficient PC with externally mounted mini TFT screen that works hand in hand with the radio manufacturers' software to provide an automatic remote unit update facility. Radio handsets that are assigned to remote locations or are hard to track down due to staff absences can be updated without user intervention. The e-dock's onboard PC also cleverly identifies and programmes multiple radio profiles simultaneously.
Grahame Craddock, Radio Services Manager, Staffordshire Police has been using the new e-dock and says, 'this development has saved hours of the Airwave Team's time which previously had to travel around the force area. We can now programme radios in weeks rather than months!'
It has been estimated that the Evesham solution can achieve approximately 80% reduction in manpower costs. When put into a real life situation this could mean a saving of up to £50,000 per annum in administrative labour costs for a radio network of an average 3000 units.
The new e-dock from Evesham can operate as a stand-alone, fully mobile unit or as a network attached programmer. It is housed neatly in a ruggedised polycarbonate case with carry handles for easy transportation and its docking stations are flush mounted for added ruggedisation. It features minimal external cabling to avoid a tangle of interface cables and to improve portability but boasts USB, Serial and LAN ports for full network support and peripheral connectivity.
Available now the Evesham e-dock is supplied as standard with a 12 months on-site, parts and labour warranty which is dealt with by a national network of engineers for full UK mainland coverage (upgradeable to 5 years). Visit www.evesham.com or call 0800 038 9300 for personal help and advice.
